Foreign language is an integral part of the elementary curriculum in Avalon Elementary School. Over the course of the year students will actively participate in the learning of Spanish through various activities, projects, uses of technology and cultural events. There is a large focus on communication consisting of both verbal and written forms, cross-curriculum connection and cultural comparison. It is increasingly important for our students to have exposure to a foreign language and understand the cultures around us. In a growing world, insight into other cultures help to battle stereotypes, discrimination, prejudice and racism, as well as make our students well rounded citizens.
Now that a little world language background is covered, I would like to tell you a bit about myself. I have lived and studied in Spain and have also traveled to Mexico, Venezuela, Portugal, and France. I speak Spanish, French, and Portuguese. I had many amazing experiences throughout my travels and studies. I was able to soak in everything that the languages and cultures had to offer. I have been teaching for many years and have always had the enjoyment of sharing my experiences with my students. I am always very eager to share my cultural experiences,my knowledge and mostly my love of languages.
Inside the classroom I establish a learning environment where all students feel comfortable and are eager to learn as well. I am in favor of learning with lively, full and active classroom participation. It is always my hope to set a great example of language and culture for the students in an atmosphere where I know that they can succeed.
